SOUNDTRACK: Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain.

It’s springtime around these parts. Bright blue skies, flowers poking up through slowly-growing grass, light sprinkles that make you (or me at least) want to dress like the Morton salt girl and go stomping through puddles. For a day like that, the only music that comes to mind (other than this post, which was actually inspired by today’s subject) is the soundtrack to a little French film, called Amélie.

Amelie

I always assume that everyone has seen this movie, but that of course isn’t the case. What a terrible thing, to not have watched this movie — ever! It’s pure idealism without being obnoxious; one invents its setting as some place wonderful and different, far away from here. Audrey Tautou is absolutely charming, sweet and cute. She may be a little unusual, but she is our heroine, and we want her to find love and a life worth living, maybe just as much as we want ourselves to find the same thing.
