SOUNDTRACK: Pushing Daisies.

March 17, 2009 1 comment

I come to you today from a field of daisies.
It’s just as wonderful as it sounds. And it has Lee Pace; what a catch!
But seriously now. If you’ve never seen Pushing Daisies, you are missing out on one of the best shows on television (unfortunately it has now been canceled; if you wish to remain in one piece you’ll refrain from talking about it in front of me). One of its best features is its soundtrack, now available.

Pushing Daisies

I have literally spent the last twenty-four hours listening to this soundtrack on repeat. (My last.fm can corraborate that.) The composer, James Dooley, has put together a collection of music just as whimsical and quirky and fantastical as the show itself. (And series star Kristin Chenoweth is almost worth the price; you may know her from her work as Glinda in the Broadway production of Wicked.) Quite a few of the songs end in crescendos, marking them as trademark made-for-television pieces set for just before the commercial break. When listening, you imagine candy-coated worlds of bright characters and places to go, and yes, the mysteries too.
Take this as a public service announcement: watch the show. But first pick up the soundtrack, and see exactly what you’re in for.
