SOUNDTRACK: Friday Night Lights.

Friday Night Lights.
This is a football movie. It also has one of the most beautiful soundtracks of any movie I’ve ever heard. That may be a paradox, but prepare to change your way of thinking immediately.
This album was almost entirely composed by the band Explosions in the Sky, a legend in the world of instrumental music and indie music in general. They have a talent of constructing entire stories, pure emotions, and past memories without using words. Sadness and happiness dwell equally in the chords and notes; if a person existed as a song, it would probably be made by Explosions in the Sky. Their music organically flows throughout the movie, transforming scenes into something higher, elevating football into something that changes mortal men.

Friday Night Lights

If you’re a football fan, or even if you hate the sport, pick this up if only for the music. If you’re new to Explosions in the Sky, this is the perfect way to acquaint yourself. If you’ve already met them, see if you can pick out the full-length songs off other albums mixed up for the soundtrack. Either way, you’ll be surprised at how well instrumental music can say so much more than most, even those with words.
