Indie band based out of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Beirut was initially the solo musical project of 23-year-old Santa Fe native Zachary Francis Condon, which later evolved into a band led by Condon. Condon plays the trumpet and the ukulele as his main instruments, having been unable to play guitar because of a wrist injury that prevented his hand from reaching fully around the neck of a guitar. The music combines elements of Eastern European and folk with Western pop music. (wikipedia)

Beirut, for how unusual they seem, is actually really normal-sounding. I don’t mean that as an insult, of course. I mean that the whole “playing ukelele” and “Eastern European” thing can throw some people off, but I find that Beirut not only carves a little hole for themselves in the indie realm but fills in completely with their beautiful music.
